When night came, I lay down on the grass, but I could not sleep an hour at a time. My mind was so filled with the fear of being alone in so lonely a place. After spending a part o of the night in anxiety, I got up and walked among the trees but not without fear of danger. When I had gone, Fong further into the Island, I saw an old man, who to me seemed feeble. I asked him what he did there, but instead of answering me, he made a sign for me to take him upon my back and carry him over the stream. I thought he was really in need of my help, so I took him upon my back and having carried him over, back him get down.

There was a time when numerous people died of infections because they did not know the rules of health and hygiene, But now modern medical research has disclosed that most of the diseases are caused by harmful germs. Steps are being taken to prevent harmful germs from polluting our food, water, atmosphere etc. The government has passed laws prohibiting people from selling dirty and rotten eatables. The rules of health and hygiene are taught to students in schools and propagated through the press, radio, T.V. etc. Besides, new research has given us wonderful medicines, vaccines etc. and hence man can get freedom from pain and many diseases that were previously considered incurable, More and more hospitals are being opened for healthier and longer lives. All this has brought down the death rate from diseases to a large extent.
